Whitpain Travel Soccer
U8 through U18 competitive soccer program for boys and girls
About the Program
Whitpain Travel Soccer is a highly competitive program in which players selected through tryouts are assigned to teams from U8 to U18 based on demonstrated skill and competitiveness. Teams compete in regional leagues, including ICSL, EDP, CRUSA Rock, Acela, and more, against other community-focused or private clubs, selecting their division of play (typically Division 5 through Elite). Including a goalie, U8–U10 teams play 7v7, U11–U12 play 9v9, and U13 and older play 11v11. Roster sizes vary accordingly—please see the supplemental information on tryouts and team formation below. For questions or assistance, contact club coordinator Kyle Speece.

Season Timing
Activities take place year-round; however, the busiest seasons are fall and spring. New teams are formed in the spring, with tryouts and player selections occurring before summer. Teams begin practicing in late summer (July–August) to prepare for the fall season, which runs from September to November and includes league play and tournaments. During winter (December–February), teams may hold indoor training or compete in indoor leagues to maintain skills. The season concludes with spring and summer leagues and tournaments (March–June), often including EPYSA State Cups.
Player and Family Commitment
Whitpain Travel Soccer is ideal for players and families seeking a competitive environment with a stronger focus on skill development than our successful intramural program. Families and individuals participating in travel soccer should recognize the significant commitment required in terms of attendance, accountability, and cost, as outlined below:
- Training & Games: Teams typically train once or twice weekly from summer through fall, sometimes during winter (at the coach’s discretion), and again in the spring. Most teams compete in fall and spring outdoor leagues and may also participate in a winter indoor league. While WRA encourages multi-sport participation, travel soccer must be a player’s priority during the season.
- Playing Time: Game time should be fair but may not be equal.
- Travel: Most league away games and tournaments are 20–60 minutes from Whitpain.
- Costs: Upon team selection, players must pay the club’s registration fee. Throughout the year, additional costs may include uniforms, a pro-rata share of tournament fees, winter indoor training/league fees, secondary league and referee fees (if applicable), supplemental third-party training, and team social events. WRA covers a team’s primary league entry and referee fees and provides a professional trainer once weekly in the fall. Total annual costs vary by team, age, and level, ranging from $300 to $1,000 per player. WRA offers need-based waivers for all programs, including travel soccer. Players seeking a waiver should contact the Chair of Travel Soccer or WRA’s Vice President of Operations.
- Volunteer Requirement: All travel soccer families must commit to at least one (1) hour of volunteer service per year. WRA is entirely volunteer-run and relies on family participation for events such as tournaments, snack stand operation, and field setup/takedown. Coaches, managers, and travel soccer committee members are exempt from this requirement.
Facilities
Most team trainings and home games are played at the WRA’s high-quality grass and turf field complex at Centre Square Park. Occasionally, trainings may be held at nearby facilities including Montgomery County Community College.
Uniforms and Equipment
All Whitpain Travel Soccer teams use Capelli Sport as the exclusive provider of training and game uniforms. Designed by players, for players, Capelli Sport is deeply rooted in sports culture, supplying team apparel worldwide—from amateur and youth teams to professional clubs.
Upon selection to a team, players must order Whitpain Travel Soccer’s mandatory Capelli Sport uniform kit for use throughout the year. Additionally, players must purchase their own cleats, shin guards, and a soccer ball.

Coaching, Training, and Curriculum
Most Whitpain Travel Soccer coaches are parent volunteers who bring a wealth of personal playing and training experience to the teams they lead. To support our coaches, Whitpain Travel Soccer has partnered with Laina Matus Training (LMT) to provide professional-level training at least once a week in the fall, included in the cost of registration.
All coaches and trainers must submit background clearances and receive approval from the WRA. Additionally, LMT and Whitpain Travel Soccer have developed a comprehensive curriculum available to all coaches, outlining the club’s goals, style of play, suggested training drills, and more.
Tournaments
Whitpain Travel Soccer annually hosts two (2) competitive tournaments at our Centre Square Park facility, one in the spring and one in the fall. These tournaments draw teams from throughout southeastern Pennsylvania for a minimum three (3) games, with boys participating one day and girls another. Questions or comments can be directed to the WRA Tournaments Director on wratournamentdirector@gmail.com.
