Whitpain Travel Soccer

U8 through U18 travel soccer program for boys and girls

About the Program

Travel Soccer is a highly competitive program where selected players are assigned to teams based on demonstrated skill and level of competitiveness.  All new and returning players are welcome to attend Spring tryouts, but not all will be asked to join a team, and in the case of returning players, possibly not back on same team as the year prior.  With Travel, the goal is to form competitive teams that are placed within a spectrum of divisional league play.

Teams compete in area leagues (e.g., ICSL, EDP, APL, ODP) against clubs from across the region based on their selected level of divisional play (Elite – D5).  In Travel, playing time should be fair but may not be equal. Most away games are between 20-60 minutes from home.  Home games are typically played at Centre Square Park. For questions or assistance, contact club coordinator Andy ODell.

Who Should Play Travel Soccer?

Whitpain Travel Soccer is ideal for players and families that are seeking an environment with a heightened focus on competition and skill development than is otherwise offered by our successful Intramural Program.   To be successful in travel soccer, children should show a desire to compete and the understanding that skills development is required from one year to the next.

Travel families should recognize that a greater commitment is required in Travel, both in terms of attendance and player accountability at practices and games but from a financially perspective.

About the Commitment

WRA, as a Club, supports multi-sport athletes, and will often make accommodations when possible, but expect that during the primary season August – November, Soccer is the primary focus when conflicts arise. Regarding financial commitments, WRA is a volunteer organization where most Coaches bring a wealth of personal playing and training experience to the teams’ they lead but often establish individual team budgets.  In addition to fall league play, which is covered in registration fees, most teams will bring in outside professional skill training, participate in Winter and Spring leagues, purchase team equipment, and play in 1-5 travel tournaments between July – June.

The fees associated with tournaments and/or any justified team expenditures are established/managed by each team and are additive to the base registration cost for the team.  It’s not unrealistic for these additional team fees to range between $300 - $1000 per player depending on the age and level of play.

We strongly encourage our most competitive players and teams at each age group, and generally encourage all teams, to continue to train/play in the offseason.  It’s not uncommon for families to seek supplemental training to ensure their players retain their competitive edge and/or progress to more competitive teams within WRA’s Travel program. Many of our Travel alumni go on to play for the Philadelphia Union Youth Academy teams, local public, and private High Schools, with many progressing on to play for D1 colleges.
