Spring Softball Divisions

7U, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U softball teams are formed each March with play occurring between April and June. Wentz Run Park serves as the program's primary home, its upper and lower softball fields playing host to practices and home games for all age divisions. Additional school fields in the Wissahickon school district are utilized when needed.

Note: Your daughter's age on January 1st will determine her "softball age" and division assignment. See descriptions below. Our online registration system, powered by TeamSnap, will automatically match your player with the proper division.

7U DIVISION

For girls born in 2017 & 2018, our 7U Division offers a fun and relaxed environment that lays the groundwork for what we hope will be a lifelong love of softball. One practice and one game will take place each week. Games feature coach pitch with batting tees used as needed. Games are played in-house, and friend/teammate requests can be made during registration using the comments field.

8U DIVISION

For girls born in 2016, our 8U Division is designed to prepare players for their eventual jump into 10U, where pitching, strikeouts, and base-stealing come into play. One practice and one game will occur each week. Games feature coach pitch with batting tees used as needed but will also slowly introduce 10U elements, like kid pitching, as the season progresses. Games are played in-house, and friend/teammate requests can be made during registration using the comments field.

10U DIVISION

For girls born in 2014 & 2015, our 10U Division introduces more elements of the game. One practice and two games occur each week. The season concludes with an end-of-season tournament. Games feature kid pitching (from 35’) up to the fourth ball thrown outside the strike zone, thereafter reverting to coach pitch until the next batter. Limitations are placed on the number of batters per inning. Strikeouts and base-stealing (2nd to 3rd) are also introduced. Games are played in-house. Teams are formed after a player evaluation that occurs in the preseason, with coaches thereafter meeting to draft teams.

INTERCOMMUNITY 12U DIVISION

For girls born in 2012 & 2013, Whitpain Softball assembles teams to compete in the ICGSL 12U League, a recreational-level league composed of Whitpain, Ardsley, Cheltenham, Upper Dublin, and other programs. One to two practices occur each week, along with one home game and one away game. The season concludes with an end-of-season tournament. Games feature kid pitching only (from 40’), with limitations on the number of batters per inning and the number of times home can be stolen.

INTERCOMMUNITY 15U DIVISION

For girls born in 2009, 2010, and 2011, Whitpain Softball assembles teams to compete in the ICGSL 15U League, a recreational-level league composed of Whitpain, Ardsley, Cheltenham, Upper Dublin, and other programs. One to two practices occur each week, along with one home game and one away game. The season concludes with an end-of-season tournament. At 15U, all limitations are removed, with teams playing softball in its truest form. Drop 3rd strike, continuous walks, and infield fly rules are introduced. Games feature kid pitching only (from 43’).

FUTURE SOFTBALLERS

For our youngest girls, ages 5-6, WRA offers the fast-moving Quickball Program. Quickball is a revolutionary program designed for girls and boys who are just beginning to explore the games of baseball and softball. Quickball makes the game more active and exciting to play and watch! Participants are always on the move with this fast-paced modern take on Tee-ball.
