Whitpain Fall Baseball

Intramural baseball program for ages 6 to 11

About the Program

The Whitpain Recreation Association offers organized Fall Baseball programs through Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball. Our dedicated volunteers and experienced coaches help to facilitate divisions ranging from the Minor League to National League.

Fall Ball begins in September, running for roughly seven weeks, plus playoffs. Rosters are typically large enough to accommodate conflicts with soccer and other fall sports. Practices are at the coaches’ discretion and are traditionally limited to early in the season.

Fall Divisions

Fall Baseball provides an opportunity to give your child a head start on learning the skills necessary for the division he'll play next spring. Some divisions participate in an Inter-Community League consisting of Whitpain, Hatfield-Towamencin, Montgomery, Nor-Gwyn, Methacton and Ambler.  It’s a rec-style format that allows the maximum number of players to participate and enjoy baseball. These are not travel teams and there are no tryouts.

All ages are based on a May 1st cutoff.  Your son's age on April 30 will determine his baseball age for the Spring season.  To make it easy, our online registration system will automatically match your ballplayer with the proper division for his "baseball age."

ROOKIE LEAGUE DIVISION

MINOR LEAGUE DIVISION

For baseball players rising ages 8, this machine-pitch informal in-house league allows our youngest players the opportunity to develop baseball skills while providing a flexible weekend schedule.

NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION

For baseball players rising ages 9-10, our American League offers players their first experience with a full player pitching on a 46/60 field. Players will continue to build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to better understand game strategy and teamwork.

AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION

For baseball players rising ages 11-12, our National League graduates players to a larger field. The pitching distance is 50 feet and the bases are 70 feet apart (compared with 46 and 60 feet, respectively, in the National League). Referred to as 50/70 play, this allows base runners to lead off, stealing is prominent, and pitchers work out of the stretch with runners on base.

Required Equipment

All Whitpain baseball players will be provided a uniform consisting of a team jersey and hat.

Starting in the Minor Leagues players should have their own bat, batting helmet, glove, and protective cup. The league will provide bats to share when needed. Cleats are optional but recommended. Approved bats require aUSA stamp on the handle.

For baseball players rising ages 6-7, this coach-pitch informal in-house league allows our youngest players the opportunity to develop baseball skills while providing a flexible weekend schedule.
