Fall Intramural Soccer

Intramural soccer program for boys and girls age 3 through to HS seniors

About the Program

WRA's Fall Intramural Soccer Program provides children who live in and around Whitpain Township the opportunity to have fun playing soccer,  develop a love of the sport, and develop their skills to the utmost in a supportive environment.

Our youngest players are trained by paid coaches with volunteers providing additional support, but as kids age through the program, volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches will train them in more advanced soccer skills and concepts. For questions or assistance, contact committee chairperson Paul Laub.

Fall Soccer Divisions

PRESCHOOL, PRE-K, KINDERGARTEN DIVISION

Our three youngest divisions participate on Saturdays only and cost $120 to join. Whitpain Township residents receive a $10 discount. residents. Spots are limited and we strongly recommend registering early.

In these divisions, players work with professional Smart Soccer trainers on basic soccer skills and participate in games where these skills can be applied. Our 2023 season opens in August with events on August 19th and 26th, followed by a break for Labor Day. Thereafter, events will run for the next 8 Saturday with the season wrapping up at the end of October.

Please note: Even though these divisions do not practice on weekday evenings, as part of registration, you'll be asked to denote their availability. This question only applies to older divisions, so please ignore these questions.

All events take place at Shady Grove Elementary School. See map below.

OLDER DIVISIONS

Our non-trophy divisions (1st through 4th grade) and trophy divisions (5th through 12th grade) have weeknight practices and weekend games and cost $150. Whitpain Township residents receive a $10 discount. Register early to avoid late fees (late registration begins July 1st). WRA offers financial assistance to families unable to manage the cost of registration. Contact Paul Laub for more information.

All players are assigned to teams and receive a team jersey to wear to games. Trophy Division teams will be drafted by coaches after July Evaluation Days. Practices begin the week of August 14th. As part of registration, we ask you to provide at least two weeknights your child could practice with their teams and we will do our best to place players on teams practicing on those nights although we do not guarantee it. Practices take place at Shady Grovel Elementary School and other local fields. Locations will be communicated by your division commissioner or team coach.

Game formats are expected to be as follows:

  • New 1st Grade Division plays 5v5
  • New 2nd Grade Division plays 7x7
  • 3rd and 4th Grade Division plays 7v7
  • 5th and 6th Grade Division plays 9x9
  • 7th and 8th Grade Division plays 11x11 *
  • 9th through 12th Grade plays 11v11  *

* Plans for these divisions are still in flux, but we are planning to hold August practices and pickup games.

Details will be communicated as registration progresses. These divisions are open to all players, even those playing travel soccer for WRA or another local club or for their Middle School and High School. Please spread the word so we can keep more kids playing into their Middle School and High School years. We will work out the schedule to avoid as many conflicts as possible.

Required Equipment

WRA Intramural Soccer requires children to wear shin guards under long socks to all games. We also recommend each child brings a soccer ball and a water bottle. All should be labelled with their name.

Coaching Resources

Each season, parent volunteers are needed for all of the age groups, so please consider joining. When registering to coach, be sure to provide the name of your child on your registration form. WRA provides a bevy of resources to help soccer coaches feel confident and at ease as your child ages through the program.

In addition to sponsoring a limited number of coaching certifications through EPYSA, we've assembled a collection of resources below. Funds are set aside for coaches to pursue the licenses associated with several of the soccer education resources listed. Contact Paul Laub for more information.
