Whitpain Travel Baseball

7U through 13U travel program for Whitpain Baseball players

About the Program

In addition to its intramural league, Whitpain Baseball hosts travel and tournament teams for divisions 7U and up. Teams play in tournaments throughout the region and in venues as exciting as the Cal Ripken complex in Aberdeen Maryland or Hershey, PA.

This program competes April through July, beginning in very competitive spring travel leagues followed by summer tournaments that culminate with the Cal Ripken District Tournament for the chance to win States!

Travel is a great experience for players and families, proving an outlet for competitive sports and the development of great friendships. For more information, contact committee chair Jim Viscanti.

7U Travel Program

Eligibility:

  • 7U players must have been born between May 1, 2017, and April 30, 2018
  • All travel team players must be registered and participate in WRA’s Intramural Program.

Coaches

We need volunteers for the 7U program to exist. We will confirm coaches after evaluations but do need to know we have interest. Volunteering to coach does not guarantee your child will be selected. For the evaluations, we'll have baseball committee volunteers leading, but we’ll need additional help running stations and keeping kids engaged. Please email baseball@playwra.com to volunteer.

Commitment

The team(s) practice one day a week during the rec season and twice a week starting early June. In the summer, the team(s) will play in a weeknight league (Tuesdays and Thursdays through July) as well as a tournament to kickoff and finish the season. Depending on the number of teams, the schedule could vary.

Evaluation Details:

Two 90-minute practice sessions for all players interested. From these sessions we will select players for one or two teams, depending on player and coach interest levels. The baseball committee will determine which players showed the skill, readiness, and proper attitude to participate in WRA’s travel program.

2025 Evaluation Dates: (location TBD)

  • Saturday, April 26th at 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, April 27th as 9 AM

Evaluation Attendance:

It is required to attend at least one evaluation. We strongly encourage players to attend both sessions, as this gives our evaluators the best chance to assess each player accurately.

Travel Baseball Player Eligiblity

The WRA Travel Baseball program is an extension of our intramural program and the broader Whitpain Recreation Association (WRA). In aligning to the mission of WRA to support the "boys and girls of the community," the following guidelines apply to the formation of our travel baseball teams.

Athletes who play for a WRA travel baseball team must meet requirement A and either B, C, or D below:

A. Play in the spring intramural program.
B. Live, or attend school, within the boundaries defined by SEPA Cal Ripken (Wissahickon School District and Eastern parts of Norristown)
C. Live in a neighboring area that is not supported by a Cal Ripken program*
D. Was rostered on a travel team but moved outside our boundaries, the player may finish his playing career with WRA

*We recognize that sometimes athletes live in an area that does not have a Cal Ripken program. Those athletes are welcome to try out for our travel teams, although they should be aware that the priority, when filling out rosters, will be given to athletes who live, or attend school, within the WRA boundaries.

The decision to roster a player who does not meet the residency/school requirement above is made at the discretion of the coach, only with prior approval from the WRA Baseball Committee Chair or VP of Operations.

Tournament Schedules

Tournament schedules will be posted here once released.

Whitpain possesses one of the newest and most complete baseball complexes in the area with five fields, batting cages, bullpens, warm up areas, picnic areas and concessions. Games for all divisions are primarily played at Wentz Run Park and PECO Field (1120 N Wales Road).
